This year, we are combining both into a two-week Summer Camp intensive presenting the outstanding Broadway musical, Matilda, Jr. This Roald Dahl classic is a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson. Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace. Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda Jr. is a joyous kid power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination. This camp is being run like every other CCT mainstage show with a Backstage program and an Onstage program. Matilda Onstage Program VIP Audition and performance dates and info: Mandatory Parent Meeting: Mon Jun 19 @ 6pm Auditions: Thurs Jun 21 @ 4-8pm @ the HSCC Prepare a one-minute monologue or poem along with a song. from the show. Dance auditions will be held this day as well. Callbacks: Fri Jun 23 @ 5-7pm Roles will be announced on June 24. Lines must be memorized (off-book) by the first day of camp - July 17 - and be familiar with the music. Zoom Music & Script Work Mandatory: July 12 @ 5-6:30pm Meet & Greet & Costume Call: Fri July 14 @ 5-8pm Summer Mainstage Camp Rehearsals: July 17-21 @ 9am-4pm, July 24-28 @ 9am-4pm. 4 Show Dates & Times: Jul 28 @ 7pm - call time is 5pm Jul 29 @ 2 pm - call time is 12pm Jul 29 @ 7pm - call time is 5pm Jul 30 @ 2pm - call time is 12pm Strike and Cast Party following Sunday show! Ages 8-18 Max 35 Resident: $360 Non-resident: $540 Supply Fee due at parent meeting - June 19th: $90 – includes, script, music, a cool CCT workbook, t-shirt and two comp tickets to any show. Costumes, set and prop materials are provided by CCT. Generally, parents are asked to provide undergarments, base clothing & dance shoes or character shoes. Backstage students will be required to wear all black pants, long-sleeved shirts and shoes for show dates. They will also need to have a small flashlight with a safety cord. Instructors - Christina Cass Catton, Laura Martin & Sharon Florio, Chris Florio, Erika Ngueda, Karissa Mierzejewski Prior to auditions, you will be sent information on script & music pickups, as well as character breakdowns and an audition form. Then you are on your way to work with an amazing team of designers and directors! All cast and crew members receive a show t-shirt and poster along with 2 comp tickets for any show. Parent volunteers are requested and vital to the success of the production! A mandatory parent meeting will take place on Monday, June 19th @ 6pm where all the excitement begins. Matilda Backstage/Artistic Program ONLY 2 SPOTS AVAILABLE! REGISTER HERE Ages 10-18 Carolina Children’s Theatre presents a 2-week Backstage & Artistic summer camp producing Broadway’s hit musical - Matilda - a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson. This beautiful musical requires an energetic and creative team to help create the sets, props & costumes for our mainstage show and ultimately run the show backstage! Lighting and sound design instruction! All cast and crew members receive a show t-shirt and poster along with 2 comp tickets for any show. Parent volunteers are requested and vital to the success of the production!
